Rick’s work with mindfulness is dedicated to advancing its use in high-reliability organizations. Rick believes individuals and organizations which embrace “mindfulness” may see an enhanced performance at both the enterprise and individual level — positively impacting one’s life. Rick has a personal passion for supporting medical professionals with burnout and its effect on the quality of healthcare. He speaks internationally on the benefits of mindfulness.
As Chief Operating Officer at UC Irvine Health, Rick is responsible for day-to-day operations of the medical facilities. Previously, he held the position of Senior Vice President for Northwestern Memorial HealthCare system. Additionally, he served as vice president with NYC Health + Hospitals, President of Duke Raleigh Hospital and a Consulting Associate at Duke University School of Nursing. Areas of research interests include the application of mindfulness in high-reliability situations, novel healthcare delivery models, healthcare economics and strategy.

Dr. William Wilson is an internationally recognized clinician-scientist, teacher, author and innovator in critical care and hospital executive leadership. He has developed and led physician training and innovative programs for 1000’s of Neurology, Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Emergency Medicine physicians, along with patient care for nursing staff.
Under his leadership and inspiration, Dr. Wilson led UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and San Diego VA hospital critical care units; Neuro critical, Cardiothoracic, Anesthesiology and Medical-Surgical. Today, as Chief Medical Officer for UC Irvine Health, a LeapFrog A rated, US News Top 50 HealthCare facility, Dr. Wilson leads the physicians, nurses and staff for continuous improvement of overall hospital quality and patient care outcomes.
